Oriental Wedding Theme

Wedding themes are all the rage, they help you to pick colour schemes, narrow down the endless possibilities of stationery and decorrelation, and can even help you with your dress and accessories. Here we take a look at an Oriental theme.

Hanging lanterns light the twilight, chilled pipe music drifts through the air and guests are served Asian delights in a buffet style feast... this is just one scenario of an Oriental themed wedding. Read on for some other great scenarios.

  • You could opt for an Asian inspired wedding dress. Chinese brides usually marry in red, but if this is not your cup of tea why not at least go for a Chinese high- cut neck, long skirt with slit, and embroidered all over with dragons, phoenixes and other symbols of good luck and prosperity.
  • Who doesn't love oriental and Asian food? The possibilities are almost endless: sushi, Chinese titbits, Thai curries and starters, Malaysian specialities, Vietnamese food... all eaten with chopsticks for a truly authentic touch. Don't forget Oriental style cocktails with plenty of fresh fruit juice like mango and passion fruit, served nice and cold.

  • Decoration has to be exotic and atmospheric. Think Chinese lanterns strung up, parasols adorned with flowers, incense in the air, Buddha statues, butterflies in the displays or hanging from the ceiling and lounging areas for guests. Purples, pinks of all shades, deep reds and blacks, even midnight blue could be included in your colour palette, with a healthy dash of gold for a luxurious finish. Plants can take centre stage, palms and exotic flowers in vibrant colours.

  • Wedding favours can be in satin and silk bags with exotic decorations and filled with oriental trinkets like incense, or scented wooden fans. Almost anything can be lent an exotic air with the right colour scheme and packaging, so don’t discount the old favourites of chocolate wrapped in gold, red or pink, or useful toiletries in Asian scents like sandalwood, poppy, lotus or jasmine.
