- Place each person next to at least one other they already know.
- Avoid mixing age groups, unless family.
- Suggest divorced parents to host their own tables
- Look for things guests have in common and try to find a balance between introverts and extroverts.
- Do not seat enemies together!
- Ensure an appropriate balance between men and women at each table.
- Work single guests into the table plan early and don’t use them as ‘fillers’.
- Place families in groups.
- Seat work colleagues on their own table.
- Consider a children’s table if there are significant numbers attending.
- Be considerate to the needs of elderly guests when assigning table positions.
- The top table does not have to be rectangular and placed at the head of the room
- You can sit at a round or oval table in the centre of the room!
