Wedding Missal

All religious weddings usually have a missal that details everything that is going to happen. If you have already decided to make your own, do you know what it will look like and what to include? Just in case, here are a few ideas to make it perfect.

A missal is a guide to how your religious ceremony is going to be carried out.  It details everything from the entrance of the bride and groom, readings, marriage rite, prayers, requests and even the music that will be playing throughout.

If you are having a church wedding and you intend to make your own missal for your guests, then take into consideration the following:
  • Talk to the parish priest who will be marrying you and choose the readings that you would like read during your ceremony.  Also decide whether or not you would like to celebrate mass or communion so that it may be included in your guide.  Everything should be included in your missal.
  • If you consider it necessary or simply because you wish to, include the name of the officiant and your witnesses, parents, best man and head bridesmaid.  You may also like to include a word of thanks to all the guests for attending.

  • If any of your guests will be dedicating a few words to you, then the text can also be included in the missal, or if you wish to keep it a surprise, just put the name of the guest who will be doing the reading.
  • On an aesthetic level, remember that the missal should coincide with all the other wedding stationary: invitations, menu cards, thank-you cards, etc.  Mention it to the company that will be printing them to maintain the same style, colour and coherence of the stationary.
  • So that all the guests have their own, you could leave them at the  church door so that everyone can pick one up as they enter, or ask a family member or friend to hand them out.
