Choosing a Reception venue

KEY CONSIDERATIONS WHEN CHOOSING A RECEPTION VENUE

In order to have all the information you'll need to compare like with like when selection reception venues, in addition the "Big 5" decisions, ask yourself the following questions:

  • If at a seperate location, how far is the reception venue from the ceremony venue and how accessible is it?
  • Will you require a pre-lunch or pre-dinner drinks reception?
  • Will the main celebration be a cocktail and canapé reception, a lunch, a tea, a buffet style meal or a formal dinner?
  • Will all your guests attend the ceremony and reception, or will a number be invited later in the day?
  • If extra guests will attend later in the day or evening, will you provide food? (if planning a late afternoon ceremony followed by a sit-down meal you may not have the flexibility to do this).
  • Will there be dancing?
  • Do you require a venue with a seperate area for a drinks reception and/or for dancing?
  • Will your guests be required to pay for alcoholic drinks after the wedding dinner?
  • Do you want to stay at the venue on your wedding night?
  • Will a significant number of guests require accommodation at or near the venue?
  • Do you need a venue within easy reach of public transport?
  • Will a significant number of children be attending the wedding?
  • If you set your heart on a venue, but it can't accommodate your guest numbers, how flexible is your guest list?
