Wedding gown

The 21st Century bride has inherited an incredibly diverse dressing-up box.  She can draw on styles from any age, made of any fabric and can complement her look with shoes and accessories chosen from a huge array of designs from around the world.

What you wear on you wedding day is also a serious statement of personal style and is likely to be among the most costly clothing you'll ever buy. As never before the modern woman can truly be the bride she wants to be: sleek and modern, sexy but simple, refined, decadent or demure - the choice is yours.

What you as a bride and groom wear can also set the tone of your celebration, but to a certain extent it is also dictated by the type of wedding you are hoping to have. As with the overall design of your day, choose something you are comfortable with, do your research and shop around for a gown you think makes the kind of statement (big or small) you want to make.

Also, do not be bamboozled by friends and family and ensure you love what you buy, because the photos will be with you forever!

Outfits are available from couture houses and top designers, made-to-measure and ready to wear off-the-peg. Which of these services you opt for is likely to be dictated by budget. They can be made from the finest silks, most luxurious fabrics or man made fibres. You can pay a few hundred pounds or a few thousand. It's available on the high street and second hand. And you don't have to marry in white and it doesn't have to be a gown!

Understand the designer jargon and what the terms mean when you are shopping for a wedding gown. When shopping ensure the service / garment is what it says: ‘couture’ as apposed to ‘made to measure’, ‘made to measure’ rather than an alternation service. Check the quality and the service match the price tag.
