Every season has its own flowers. Choosing seasonal flowers will not only be reflected in the price, i.e. they'll be more sensibly priced, but it will also mean that they should last the whole day.
The stars of summer flowers are roses, a classic flower that won't let you down and in which the bride has confidence in for her bouquet. You can choose from dozens of types of roses, hundreds of colours, from the most chic and sophisticated to more simple and wild varieties. Some of the roses in vogue in recent years are the rococo rose, the pitimini rose and the spray rose, all having a small flowers and muted colours such as cream and salmon pink etc... You can also go for the complete opposite: rosmelia roses (gigantic roses made up of hundreds of petals) these do not suffer at all in the summer heat.
Other summer flowers that you could use in the bouquet are magnolia, orchids, dahlia, lilies, spikenard, freesias, chrysanthemums, lilacs or veronicas all expressive and appealing coloured flowers. Any of these flowers could be the main feature of a bouquet which radiates youth and strength. In summer, warm colours dominate, yellows, reds, oranges...as opposed to winter where white and green are the main colours.
For complementary flowers, or more casual or simple bouquets, two summer flowers are normally used: jasmine, in the mini and the paniculata forms (also called bride's veil). Both are light, elegant and sober flowers which will not overshadow your dress nor make the bouquet stand out too much.
Amongst other popular flowers for summer bouquets are sunflowers, marguerites and hydrangeas, large flowers, that are not traditionally used in bouquets, but which are in demand these days from brides who want a personalised and original wedding. Other brides like to include non-floral elements such as wicker or Swarovski crystals.
Winter flowers on which you can depend are tulips, which have good quality flowers available all year round, although they are somewhat pricey at this time of year. They need to be placed in compact bouquets so that they don't open up.
If you are getting married in the summer, one thing's for sure, you need to choose good-quality flowers that will not get dehydrated. The bouquet ribbon will keep them in place during the day.
