Ideas for a Romantic Wedding

Nearly all of us have dreamt about our wedding day since we were little; and it's because we love the romanticism of it all, without being too soppy about it. So today we're bringing you some ideas of how to have an elegant and romantic wedding.

If you've always dreamt of having a romantic wedding, but you dread it ending up twee or soppy, this is the article for you. We'll share some ideas and advice so that you can have the fairytale wedding you've always longed for.

  • The wedding dress. Choose an ethereal dress, one with movement. Tulle and chiffon are perfect, although lace can also look great too.
  • A romantic wedding needs a fairytale setting. A little chapel in the middle of a field, a quintessential castle or the gardens of a private country estate are all good choices.

  • The flowers must be spot on for this type of wedding. To achieve a romantic atmosphere, choose peonies, roses or wildflowers. Choose dusky colours and make sure they feature in every element of the decoration: the ceremony, the table centrepieces, and of course your bouquet.
  • The ideal wedding posy is a bouquet.

  • Prepare some paper cones full of rice and petals, which complement the decorations, for when you're leaving the ceremony.
  • As always, the details are very important. How about giving a flower (the same as the ones in your bouquet) to all your female guests? Ask the restaurant to give the flowers out as the guests arrive.
  • Give a vintage feel to your wedding, how about using an old typewriter as your guest book?
  • Fill the tables with candles and candelabras. The light they give off will help to create a romantic atmosphere.
  • Release some butterflies during the ceremony (if it's outdoors), or during the canapes. This would be a magical moment that neither you nor your guests will forget.

  • And if you are not sure about butterflies, wait until it gets dark to launch Japanese paper lanterns. The image of the lanterns, lit up with candles, soaring through the night sky is simply spectacular.
  • Give your guests bubble blowers so that, during the first dance, they can flood the dance floor with bubbles. If you are looking for a more intimate atmosphere, you could give your guests sparklers and ask the DJ to turn the lights down low during your dance, so that the sparklers bathe you in light.

  • Choose a song that is really special for both of you for your first dance: the one you first danced to together, or one you heard when you first started going out together.
