Wedding Gown Shopping Tips
- When making an appointment check samples are stocked in your size. If you have a particular designer or dress in mind check if they have samples in stock.
- Inform sales staff before you visit of your price range to ensure they can work within it.
- Inform the assistant of time of year and style of your wedding.
- Show the sales advisor clippings of designs you like (it may prompt them to show you something you have not selected to try on).
- Examine garments close-up. Look for flaws. Does the quality match the price?
- Ask the right questions about the service you are getting. Ensure that the service is what is what it says it is. (e.g. couture as opposed to made-to-measure, or made-to-measure rather than an alteration service).
- Advise now if weight loss is a consideration. If it is, be realistic. If they can work with you, what additional costs will there be? Similarly, check additional charges if you are pregnant.
- When you have chosen a gown or outfit ask for payment terms:
- How much is the deposit?
- What is included in the cost?
- Will there be a charge for alterations?
- Read and check the disclaimer before signing it - check and double check - especially the dates.
- How many fittings will there be and will the same advisor look after you at each visit?
- What are the delivery and collection dates?
- Secure a date for your final fitting for at least 2 weeks before the wedding.
- Ask for a fabric swatch of your material.
