Historic houses offer a sense of unique style. Often they have parks, lakes, trees, fountains, wonderful staircases and grand rooms that you do not find anywhere else. Some offer a complete wedding service with in-house catering and accommodation. Others will advise what you can and can't do and leave you to organize the rest with oustide suppliers. Even if a venue cannot offer accommodation, it will usually provide a room for the bride to get ready in and sometimes for the couple on their wedding night. There is a huge range of venues from modest country houses to huge stately homes. They are all very special with wonderful photo opportunities.
The hire of such venues is significant, but you are securing exclusivity, the "wow" factor and the ability to completely tailor-make your wedding day or weekend down to the finest detail. When hiring an historic house or castle try to find out how the owners recommend the day to be run. Take their advice on what does and doesn't work. Other considerations include whether they will provide in-house catering or facilities for you to bring in your own food and drinks. Assume ther will be some restrictions, even when you have exclusive use of the venue, so ask how much f the house and gardens you can use. Find out who their recommended local suppliers are and ask if they can gather them together for you to meet in one session. These local suppliers know the venue, the access requirements and will work within your budget. They will not want to let you or us down because if they do, they will not get our business again in the future.
If a house or castle can offer accomodation, bear in mind that it is not going to be comparable to a hotel with 24 hour room service and housekeeping. Smoking is lilekely to be prohibited in all areas, there won't be late bars or satellite TV in the bedrooms. You are in a private home. But you will be living a fantasy and enjooying a celebration beyond compare.
